Privacy Policy

Last updated:
Applies to CareDose for Android.

This policy covers CareDose, package xyz.arifz.caredose, developed by arifz (“we”, “us”). It explains how the app handles personal and health information and the choices you have.

1. Information stored on your device

CareDose stores information you enter to organise medicine schedules and record doses. This may include:

This information can contain sensitive health and personal information. It is used locally to display schedules, issue reminders, calculate record-based summaries and support the backup or sharing actions you choose. We do not receive your medicine database or prescription photos through normal app use. CareDose does not create an online account or provide live caregiver sync in this release.

2. Prescription photos

CareDose uses Android’s photo picker to receive only images you select. It does not request camera permission or broad access to your photo library. A selected image is decoded, resized where needed and saved as a JPEG in the app’s private storage.

Deleting the original image from your gallery does not remove CareDose’s saved copy. Removing or replacing an attached photo, or deleting its medicine or member, removes the associated active photo file through the app’s normal deletion flow. Existing backups and pre-restore snapshots can still contain earlier copies.

3. Reminders and Android permissions

Notification permission lets CareDose display medicine reminders. Exact-alarm access, where available and granted, helps schedule them at your chosen times. Without it the app can use less precise alarms. Restart and clock-change handling reschedules reminders after a reboot, app update or time change. Android background-work components also use wake-lock, network-state and foreground-service permissions for their operation; these do not grant access to your contacts, location or health records in other apps.

Reminder notifications can include a medicine name, family member’s name, dose amount and time. CareDose marks them private and supplies a generic public notification, but what appears on your lock screen or connected devices depends on Android, notification access and your settings. Review those settings if other people can see your phone.

You can turn reminders off in the app and manage permissions in Android Settings. Delivery can be affected by permissions, battery restrictions and device behaviour.

4. Sharing a schedule or summary

When you choose to share, CareDose passes a text copy to the app you select in Android’s share chooser. A schedule can include a member’s name, medicine names, amounts, times and food instructions. A weekly summary includes the period and dose counts.

The chosen app or recipient may store, transmit or further share that information under their own practices. A shared copy does not update automatically and cannot be recalled or deleted by CareDose. Only share information you have permission or authority to share.

5. Backup files, restore and storage providers

You can export a ZIP backup containing profiles, medicines, dose history and attached prescription photos to a location chosen through Android’s file picker. It also contains backup metadata such as format version, app version and creation time. CareDose does not encrypt or password-protect these ZIP files. Anyone able to open a backup may be able to read its health information.

Optional automatic backup uses a folder you select and grant access to. Android schedules the work approximately weekly; execution depends on device conditions. After writing a backup, the app keeps the five newest files with its automatic-backup filename prefix in that folder and attempts to remove older matching files. Turning automatic backup off stops future scheduled backups; it does not delete existing files.

A location offered by a storage provider may be on the device or backed by an online service. The selected provider may upload or synchronise files according to its own settings and privacy policy. A local-first app does not make that provider’s storage local-only.

Restoring a backup replaces the current records after your confirmation. If current records exist, CareDose first saves a private, unencrypted pre-restore snapshot and retains up to three such snapshots. Temporary restore files are staged in app cache and normally removed after completion or cancellation. Device-specific settings are retained during restore.

Android automatic cloud backup and device transfer are disabled/excluded for CareDose app data by the current configuration. Do not rely on reinstalling the app or transferring your phone to recover records. Keep a separate CareDose export if you need one. We cannot restore a backup we do not hold.

6. Google Play updates, external apps and this website

CareDose has no advertising, analytics or integrated automatic crash-reporting SDK in this release. The app does not request Android’s INTERNET permission and does not operate a server for your care records. This does not mean that no information ever leaves your device.

CareDose uses Google Play’s in-app update service. Google Play runs its own processes to check and install updates. Google documents processing device metadata, the application version and installed modules/asset packs to determine update availability and size. Google states that this update data is encrypted, not transferred to third parties by that feature and deleted after a fixed retention period. Its documentation does not specify the length of that period. CareDose does not include your medicine database or prescription photos in update requests.

See Google’s in-app update data-handling information and Google’s Privacy Policy.

Opening email, web links, share targets or online file providers involves separate applications and services. When you visit this policy website, your browser and hosting infrastructure process ordinary request information such as IP address, browser information and requested URL to serve the page. This policy page contains no advertising or analytics scripts.

7. How local records are protected

CareDose uses Android’s private app storage and the protections supplied by your device. It does not add its own database encryption, prescription-photo encryption, PIN lock or biometric lock. Backup ZIPs and internal pre-restore snapshots are not encrypted by the app.

Use a device screen lock, keep software current and restrict access to backups and shared copies. No storage method can guarantee complete security. We do not sell your care records or use them for advertising.

8. Retention and deletion

Records are retained locally while you use the app. You can edit or delete members, medicines and dose records. Deleting a member or medicine preserves existing dose history, including names and dose details copied into that history.

In-app deletion is not a complete erasure of the underlying database. Deleted members, medicines and dose records are marked as deleted and hidden from active views; their database rows may remain. Pre-restore snapshots can also retain earlier data.

To remove the app’s local database, stored photos, private snapshots and settings, use Android Settings → Apps → CareDose → Storage → Clear storage/data, or uninstall CareDose. Menu names vary by device. This is normal app-data removal, not a guarantee of forensic secure erasure.

Exported files, automatic backups, original gallery images, shared messages and copies stored by recipients or providers are not removed by clearing app storage or uninstalling. Delete those separately in the relevant location or service. We cannot remotely access or delete local records that have never been sent to us.

9. Family information and children

CareDose is intended for adults managing their own medicines or caring for family members. Adults may enter children’s information for that purpose. The app is not designed as a service for children to submit information to us, and it does not send locally entered child profiles to us.

Only enter or share another person’s information when you have appropriate permission or legal authority, such as a parent’s or guardian’s authority where applicable. Contact us if you are concerned about a child’s information included in a support message.

10. Support, privacy requests and your rights
